This has honestly been one of the things I couldn't figure out for the longest time. When you first go to create or share a story from your feed, you get the gradient colored background that seems completely unchangeable. Well, the scheduling app called Later had the 411 and I'm going to share it with you!
To change your Instagram Stories background to a solid color, select the drawing tool from the upper right hand menu.
Select the marker or neon brush. (Translucent color fill if you use the chisel-tip brush)
Then, select a color from the color tray, and tap on the background AND hold your finger on the screen for 1-3 seconds. After you hold the screen, your story background will fill with the selected color.
Another great tidbit is that if you use a photo from your camera roll and follow these steps, the whole screen will fill with color, creating a layer of color on top of your photo.
Here's a video of how to do it on your iPhone.
Happy Instagraming!
